Frank Lloyd Wright Races FAQs

The majority of streets along the race route are closed from 7:30-10am. For those traveling on Lake St., the eastbound lane will remain open the entire morning. All other traffic and cross streets may experience delays due to foot traffic. Residents are encouraged to review the course map (download pdf at left) and allow extra time for transportation during the morning.

There is one water station on the 5K course, located at approximately 1.75 miles. There are four total water stations on the 10K course, located at approximately 1.75 miles, 3 miles, 4.5 miles, and 5.25 miles. There is also water at the finish line. See the course map, at left, for locations.

Yes. USA Track & Field amended the ban on headphones, iPods, etc., for general race participants. However, please be aware of your surroundings and other participants during the race.

Strollers are allowed at the back of the pack of runners (unless participating in walk, then should line up with walkers). Children riding in strollers do not need to be registered.

Dogs are not allowed unless serving in a service animal capacity.

Skateboards, rollerblades, unauthorized bicycles, segways and other wheeled modes of transportation are not allowed on the race course.

We ask that parents who intend to accompany their child stay on the sidewalk as the Youth Mile kicks off to ensure the safety of our participants. Naturally, you are welcome to accompany your child along the course route, just please keep in mind the safety of those around you!

All events start just east of Oak Park River Forest High School at Scoville and Ontario, and finish on Scoville in front of the school. The 5K start location is nearest to the intersection of Ontario & Elmwood streets. The 10K start location is nearest to the intersection of Ontario & Ridgeland. The Youth Mile start is located approximately midway between the two.

10K Run starts at 8am, 5K Run/Walk starts at 8:15am and the Youth Mile starts at 9:15am. All races begin to line up 15 min before the start of the race.

The school’s address is 201 N. Scoville Avenue in Oak Park.

Parking is limited. On-street parking is available nearby, please follow posted parking restrictions. The OPRF garage will be closed to the public during the race.

Public transportation is recommended. The high school is near the CTA Green Line Ridgeland Stop and a short walk from the Metra Union Pacific West Line Oak Park stop.

Bike to the race. Bike parking is not available in the Fieldhouse, but ample bike parking is available outside.

Yes. There will be water and other drinks and snacks at the finish line for participants. Our generous sponsors will see that you are well fed. The Oatmeal Bar inside the OPRF High School cafeteria will open at 8:10am with fresh toppings from Trader Joe’s. FREE for participants (ticket on bib), $5 for non-participants (cash only at the door).

Race results will be posted inside the Fieldhouse when they become available. You can also scan the QR code on your bib to see your results 10 minutes after you finish. Results will also be posted on the flwraces.com page on race day.

Yes, the Races are limited to a total of 2,600 participants. Please note that once an event is full, we are unable to accommodate requests to open spots in that event. We will keep the flwraces.com website updated as events close.

No, there will not be a waiting list for any event in the FLW Races.

Unfortunately, we are unable to transfer individuals from one event to another due to limited capacity for each event.

No. Sale and/or transfer of race entry/bibs is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification. Entry fees are non-refundable, and may not be deferred toward a future event.

If you have registered by September 1, your size is guaranteed when you pick up your packet. If you registered after September 1, your shirt size is NOT guaranteed, and we recommend you pick up your packet early so that you have the most size options available.

Packet pickup begins the Thursday before the race and goes through Saturday. Packet pickup at RCRC, 415 Lake Street

If you discover an error in your information at packet pickup, please let staff know immediately. You can always check this information prior to packet pickup by calling (708) 725-2000 during normal business hours or emailing your request to flwraces@pdop.org and a member of our staff will assist you.

Yes. During the race, you can temporarily store additional clothing or small items inside your participant bag or other bag at Gear Check. Gear Check is located inside the OPRF High School Fieldhouse and opens at 6am.To check your gear, remove the Gear Check tag from your bib number and fasten it to your bag. Please do not check valuable items. The FLW Races are not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items. Bags not claimed by 10am will be taken back to the offices at RCRC (415 Lake Street in Oak Park) and must be picked up in person during Customer Service hours.

All races start and finish at OPRF High School, 201 N. Scoville in Oak Park, located about 8 miles west of the Chicago Loop. If driving, take I-290 and exit at Austin (exit is on your left).Turn north on Austin, after about one mile turn west onto South Boulevard (runs along the Lake Street L Tracks). Take South Blvd to East Avenue, and turn north onto East Avenue. The high school is located one block east on Scoville.

If traveling by train from Chicago, take the green line and exit at the Ridgeland stop, the high school is located one block north and two blocks west down Lake Street.

As long as you verified your registration information at packet pickup (or beforehand) the color of your bib should not matter.

All proceeds from the Frank Lloyd Wright Races will go the the Park District Scholarship Fund which helps Oak Park families in need pay for programs such as after-school care, summer camp, pool passses and more.

Yes! We definitely want to encourage our young runners to participate. We ask that you register for the race in person for a runner under 7, during Customer Service hours at either the RCRC location or the GRC location. We also encourage that a parent or older sibling accompany the child along the race route to help ensure their safety.

Restrooms are provided as port-a-potties at the finish line/race fair area, as well as in multiple locations inside the OPRF High School. There are no facilities provided along the race route.

We will follow all local and state health department guidelines as released. No refunds will be given as a result in changes to Covid-related restrictions.
