Longfellow Park Awarded Environmental Recertification

The Park District of Oak Park is proud to announce Longfellow Park has earned environmental recertification from the Sports Turf Managers Association, a national association comprised of all levels of play up to professional sports. To earn this distinction an assessment was completed of the District’s management and maintenance practices which are overseen by Sports Field Manager Travis Stephen. Examples of these practices include no pesticide or herbicide use, collection and use of 9,000 gallons of water from the nearby splash pad to irrigate the sports field, frequent core aeration, topdressing with organic materials and over-seeding. The Park District of Oak Park continues to strive to be a leader in sustainability in the Parks & Recreation industry across the country.
